#Walk&Talk: A Bird’s Eye View

May 9, 2018

‘What weather! The man above gave it the seal of approval. Wasn’t the atmosphere just lovely? Can we do this every year’ … just some of the many comments passed this weekend.

A young person, a middle of the night walker, was overheard saying it was too cold to be using the mobile phone so the group talked for the hour and ‘shure wasn’t that the idea? To walk and talk?’ Another person was so chuffed and delighted to rekindle a friendship that had been lost for no reason over the years. Some walked quietly, challenging themselves, some others ran and laughed loudly enjoying the warm and welcoming joviality of family, friends and community. Young, old, big, small, boys, girls, men and women from our small but very vibrant and proud welcoming community of families walked and talked together keeping in mind how they were supporting not only the club but more importantly the community and wider communities affected by suicide.

Kiltale Hurling Club facilitated this event and aim to work with the GAA healthy club initiative in mind, to run a healthy club both physically and emotionally. Perhaps the ‘talk’ part of the event was the most important message of the weekend. Walk & Talk 2018 sent out all the right messages.

Well done to each and every leader, walker, sponsor, contributor and friends of Kiltale Hurling Club. Without you there would be less reason to walk or talk.

 Roll on 2019?

Major fundraiser 2018 – Walk & Talk 24-hour Walkathon

The Club are hosting a 24-hour “Walk & Talk” Walkathon on the May bank holiday weekend. Full details are available on our post here, and on our special Facebook event.

24 leaders are been sought, so we have one team walking every hour. Teams can be made up of 5 to 15 people. Every team will be requested to bring a selected sum of money. Each hour will have a different theme (‘family’ or ‘fancy dress’, for example).

We hope the event will involve all in the parish, young and old. All proceeds from one designated hour will be given to a chosen charity, with every other club in the county being asked to nominate one person (and provide a donation) for that hour.

We will have a BBQ with all manner of refreshments and entertainment that evening for our participants, sponsors and supporters to enjoy. This will be a great community spirit and all attendance is very welcome.

We have at least 15 leaders and we thank all those that have come on board to be leaders but we need to fill in the remaining leader slots – if you are interested contact Liz Phelan at 086 1205552.

Please support this event as not only will it help our club and community but also the very worthy charities – Cycle Against Suicide & Meath River Rescue

Major fundraiser 2018: an invitation

The Club are hosting a 24-hour “Walk 2 Talk” Walkathon on the May bank holiday weekend.

Remaining funds will be put towards the running of the club and to assist in the plans for the development in 2018. While the outstanding Lotto grant will cover renovation of the dressing rooms and fencing off the second pitch, other funds will be required for the other development of the grounds.

An invitation: Friday 23rd February at 9pm

  • We ask anyone interested, or who has said she will enter a team in the 24-hour walkathon, to come and meet the committee and begin the process for this great fundraiser and social event!
  • We require 24 leaders – one for each hour – and at least 10 people to join their team and walk in each hour. We also require a team to help us with the promotion of the event on social media.
  • On the night the club will inform all what the 24 hours entail, and what sort of fundraising we hope to receive from each team.
    • We have a hurling club
    • A walking/running track
    • A Hurling Wall
    • 2 adult pitches which need developing
    • A juvenile pitch which needs developing
    • Dressing room which will be done up as part of lotto grant
    • Lighting that needs to be maintained and improved – the list is endless, but money is needed to run it all!

This sort of event has only previously done in one other GAA club – it was a great social 24 hours for their parish, as well as a great fundraiser, and we ask you all to please come along on Friday night at 9pm and support us.

Please come along and be part of this great event, on Friday night at 9pm in the clubhouse.

At some stage during the 24-hour walk or before the event TV3 will cover the proceedings – we thank those associated with TV3 for the promotion of the fundraiser.

County Board notice: Referee rules

January 16, 2018

The following is a note from the Meath GAA county secretary…

Clubs are hereby put on notice that CCC an Mhí will implement Regulations 66, 76 and 86 2017 from 05 February 2018. Regulations 66 (A League), 76 (B League) and 86 (Hurling League) refer to the requirement for clubs to have certified referees in place. Failure to have a certified referee in place has the consequence of having to play all league games away from home.
This Regulation has been in place for a number of years but not enforced by CCC an Mhí until the latter end of the leagues in 2017. This was due to the chronic shortage of certified referees in the County, resulting in a small number of games being postponed due to the unavailability of referees.

The 05 February 2018 has been chosen to allow clubs nominate new referees and to allow them attend the three session new referees training course currently being organised by Frank Gallogly – Referees Co-Ordinator. Clubs are urged to contact Frank directly in relation to the course and all aspects of new referees. It is intended that the new referees training course will be completed by the end of January 2018.

Once CCC an Mhí implement this existing Regulation they will have no latitude to deviate from the measure imposed so all affected clubs are encouraged to provide suitable people as new referees.

Please also note that if a person becomes a certified referee but then fails to officiate at games as allocated, that person may be deemed ‘inactive’ by the Referees Co-Ordinator. Clubs with Inactive Certified Referees are deemed not to have a Certified Referee and will therefore lose home advantage under regulations 66, 76 and 86.

Note: Frank Gallogly can be contacted at 086-8686729.

Kiltale HC AGM 2018 – change of date

This will be held on Thursday 18th Jan at 8pm in Kiltale Clubhouse.

Kiltale Hurling Club invite all members/players/mentors/parents and new members to the AGM. The club needs more members on its committee to allow the club develop.  It needs people to come on board to assist the club in fundraising, ground development/maintenance, teams, etc – all that is involved in keeping a club going.

If members wish to nominate people for any position in the club, you can send your nominations to the club secretary: text or phone 086 1205552, or email secretary.kiltalehurling.meath@gaa.ie.

Please take this opportunity and help the club out in a positive and productive way as it stand the committee needs to grow and the club can only move forward by people coming on board to help. The opportunity for all is at the AGM.

We hope to see new faces at the AGM and NEW members on the committee for 2018.

Update on development of new grounds: The process involving Teagasc and the Chief State Solicitor’s Office, with regard to the change of ownership of the new lads, is nearly complete. All correspondence has been signed by both parties, and the club’s solicitors are completing the final part of the paperwork to get the issue with the Land Folio numbers completed.  This will then allow the club to start the work on the dressing rooms and new pitch. It has been a long process getting all resolved – all of which has been totally out of the control of Kiltale Hurling Club – but thankfully we are near completion and the benefits of having the planned work done will benefit all.

The club house is a very important facility in our parish and always needs support. Like other clubs we don’t want to know what it is to be without it. Drop in for a drink or an ESSENSCE Coffee or think about using the facility for a party or meeting.

We appreciate your support and value the custom you all give.
