Meath GAA fixtures planner 2017

January 14, 2017

Please see below note from Meath CCC with regard to the attached Meath GAA Planner for Jan-Aug 2017.

A Chairde, attached is the 1st Fixture plan for 2017. You can download a copy here.

It runs from January to Early August which CCC An Mhí have worked on in conjunction with Coiste Fé 18 (re U17 to U19) and this plan was ratified by CCC An Mhí 10/1/2017.

We would ask that the following points are noted.

  1. Preliminary, Round 1 & 2 of Knock Out Football Cups on first three weekends to start year off.
  2. Four AFL games scheduled in February/March. Two certainly or possibly three of the four will allow Clubs access to County Football players.
  3. No Football Championship in April. This is to cut out the uncertainty of when Clubs start the Championship. If we attempt the normal April start and should Meath make NHL Final (1st April) the NFL Final (9th April) or U21 Semi Final (15th April) all our best laid plans are shrouded in ifs, buts and maybes.
CCC An Mhí feel it is essential that Club players can look at this and with almost 100% certainty say we will play 1st Round of Championship on Week ending 21st May.
  4. Hurling Championship are scheduled as always when Meath play Leinster SFC Quarter Final.
  5. The plan we feel gives for the first time a detailed laid out seven-month schedule until 2nd August for 3 rounds Football and Hurling Championship. 13 Rounds A League, 7 Rounds Hurling League and 9 Rounds BFL. It also covers Knock Out in both Football and Hurling dates.
  6. Please note 12 dates are given to B League while 9 are all that is needed. This is to arrange around the Divisions where 10 players are named and also the Dual Club scenario where at times B League are scheduled around Hurling League dates.
  7. Certain weekends early in the year will see A & B Football Leagues but this is a system used in the Hurling Leagues each year which no problems reported.
  8. Coiste Fe 18’s U-17 Football (no impact on adult) is included
  9. The new U19 Football League are given dates to encourage club participation and are planned not to clash with A or B League Football.
  10. Minor Hurling Leagues also given dates with no clash with Adult Hurling.
  11. CCC An Mhí earnestly request co-operation from the Clubs and that all major Club Dates and Events are notified to the Runaí in writing as early as possible in the year but that at least 4 weeks notice is given to enable CCC to do what we can to facilitate Clubs on fixture’s as the stance will be taken once again that once a Fixture is made “IT WILL STICK”.

CCC An Mhí wish all our Clubs the very best on and off our sports fields for 2017.

Kiltale Hurling Club – Lottery Grant

Due to a complication with Folio number at the lands at Kiltale GAA pitch.  The GAA and the State solicitor are working to resolve this issue and the Lottery funding is still secure while this process is completed.  Until then the works planned for the dressing rooms are on hold.

Hurling Club Plan

This was submitted to Meath GAA in September, and as part of the plan the club will engage in bringing outside coaches to the club on a weekend in January/February to mentor all the club’s team mentors. The plan is to give coaches new ideas. We would encourage some of our retired players and present players when this date is set to come and join in. The club want to assist all as much as possible.

Defibrillator Training

The club will have training for using the defibrillator in January – so we’re asking mentors and players to be trained up on this.  No one knows when if ever the defibrillator will be need and we feel that the more people involved in the club should be aware on how to use it.  The club will be placing the defibrillator outside the dressing rooms in the coming weeks.

Please give your name to Liz Phelan 086-1205552 if you’re interested in being trained. There will be a small fee to assist this training.

Meath SHC final: Kiltale prevail in thrilling finale

October 24, 2016
Killyon's Calvin Ryan and Anthony Forde Kiltale strain every muscle to reach the ball during the Meath senior hurling championship final at Pairc Tailteann

Killyon’s Calvin Ryan and Anthony Forde Kiltale strain every muscle to reach the ball during the Meath senior hurling championship final at Pairc Tailteann.

Meath SHC final: Kiltale 0-17, Killyon 1-13

Kiltale made it three-in-a-row with a minimum margin win over Killyon in the Ted Murtagh Meath SHC final at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday.

The champions bid to retain the Jubilee Cup was severely tested. Despite falling behind in the third quarter Kiltale came good when the pressure came on.

County man Jack Regan did not start. He was benched with a heavily strapped thigh. Introduced in the 56th minute, he delivered what proved to be the match-winning score from a 64th minute free.

Only a goal was good enough for Killyon. A point from sub JJ Gilsenan closed the scoring with Killyon’s bid to end a gap going back to 2005 was over.

Kilyon regained the lead through Peter Durnin’s 44th minute free, 0-13 to 1-9, and were not headed again.

A Calvin Ryan point from inside his own 65 levelled matters. Kiltale wing-back James Kelly responded with his second score.

Kiltale edged matters for the remainder. They passed up chances to flatline the contest, but Killyon were off target twice in the final minutes. First, Keoghan was wide from a free within his range. Then Adam Gannon had a goal attempt bravely smothered.

Kiltale had the backing of the elements in the first-half, defending the town end. Within a minute of the off the defending champions had two points on the board from play. Ross Ryan was first to register with wing-back James Kelly getting the second.

Driven on by leading scorer Keith Keoghan, Killyon worked their way back into the game. The scores were tied for the first time when Keoghan sent over from play in the 13th minute.

Ross Ryan posted three three points from play in the opening half. The first of them put Kiltale back in front approaching the mid-point of the half.

The scores were tied four times in the first-half, the final one when Cathal McCabe sent over for the holders and left it 0-7-each after 22 minutes.

The champions were a bit more wasteful than the challengers in the first 30 minutes with Cathal McCabe passing up a goal chance midway through the half.

Keoghan provided the final assist for the opening goal with a crossfield ball that unhinged the Kiltale defence and allowed Adam Gannon to net in the 23rd minute, 1-7 to 0-7.

Two Durnin frees trimmed the deficit to the minimum. Adam Gannon replied for the challengers before pointed with Keoghan’s assistance. Durnin (free) left Kiltale trailing by the minimum, 0-10 to 1-8, at the break.

Kiltale – Shane McGann; Anthony Donnelly, David Donoghue, Ciaran Ennis; Stephen Donoghue, Ronan Ryan, James Kelly (0-2); Iarla Hughes, Padraig Kelly; Fearghal McCabe (0-1), Cathal McCabe (0-2), Mark O’Sullivan (C); Peter Durnin (0-6, 5fs, 1 65), Ross Ryan (0-4), Anthony Forde (0-1). Subs – Eamon Ryan for Hughes (ht), Kevin Ryan for F McCabe (47), Jack Regan (0-1 f) for Durnin (56), Padraig Donoghue for Ennis (64).
