RIP Ronan Kelly

Last week our club lost its most passionate, loyal and dedicated supporter: our Public Relations Officer, Ronan Kelly, who has died suddenly in his 31st year.

Ronan was the embodiment of what it means to be a Gael, and keenly followed the club’s affairs at all grades and age levels. Always enthusiastic and supportive, he was well known far beyond the parish, where his opinions on all matters GAA were always appreciated.

To his parents Paddy and Breda, his brothers Padraig and James, sister Sarah, grandad Paddy, and all his aunts, uncles, cousins and relations, we offer our most sincere sympathies and hands of friendship at this most difficult time.

Walk and Talk 2018 – cheque presentation

Thank you to all those that attend the function on Saturday night 9th June.

Both charities – Cycle Against Suicide & Meath River Rescue — were presented with their cheques. Each charity received €5000 and were most grateful and humbled by what was raised by the club.

The club is very grateful to the other GAA clubs in Meath and beyond who supported our charity hour. All Leaders were informed of the sum raised and are to inform their teams of this. The event was a very successful event for all concerned. Everyone that was associated to the event was thanked by chairman Dominic Reilly – who noted that, please God, the same weekend might be undertaken in 2019 with a little twist!

Also on the night a presentation was made to Robert Donovan for walking 19 hours and for the monies raise by him alone.

The club also made a presentation to Forde Super Store – Tony & Martin Forde for there donation of 2 ECO Stoves which they kindly installed in the clubhouse. Dominic Reilly thanked Tony & Martin for their continuing support to the club

Pitches and dressing rooms

Work will begin this week (16th May 2018) on the dressing rooms. It will start in the fourth dressing room and work to the first dressing room. All mentors of both hurling and Camogie have been informed of the works started.

As part of the building is under construction it is important that only the assigned dressing rooms are used and booking of the pitch is through Dom Reilly at all times.

When using the dressing rooms, be it for training or games, please clean it after them as the dressing rooms are shared between hurling and Camogie. Also check that all lights, water, pumps and heating are off before leaving and lock up.

If flags or small goals are used please bring all flags back in and place small goals along the side lines.

The club ask all to cooperate please and make the facilities ready to use at all times.

#Walk&Talk: A Bird’s Eye View

May 9, 2018

‘What weather! The man above gave it the seal of approval. Wasn’t the atmosphere just lovely? Can we do this every year’ … just some of the many comments passed this weekend.

A young person, a middle of the night walker, was overheard saying it was too cold to be using the mobile phone so the group talked for the hour and ‘shure wasn’t that the idea? To walk and talk?’ Another person was so chuffed and delighted to rekindle a friendship that had been lost for no reason over the years. Some walked quietly, challenging themselves, some others ran and laughed loudly enjoying the warm and welcoming joviality of family, friends and community. Young, old, big, small, boys, girls, men and women from our small but very vibrant and proud welcoming community of families walked and talked together keeping in mind how they were supporting not only the club but more importantly the community and wider communities affected by suicide.

Kiltale Hurling Club facilitated this event and aim to work with the GAA healthy club initiative in mind, to run a healthy club both physically and emotionally. Perhaps the ‘talk’ part of the event was the most important message of the weekend. Walk & Talk 2018 sent out all the right messages.

Well done to each and every leader, walker, sponsor, contributor and friends of Kiltale Hurling Club. Without you there would be less reason to walk or talk.

 Roll on 2019?
