MHC: Win over Kildalkey gives Kiltale minors the double

Meath MHC final:
Kiltale 2-10, Kildalkey 1-6

Kiltale added the minor hurling championship title to the league crown won earlier in the year. To complete a remarkable year for the club Kiltale can add this title to their senior and junior hurling championships.

Kiltale lined out without Cillian O’ Sullivan (in Australia) and the injured Eamon Walsh, Mark Foy and Daragh Brannigan. PJ Walsh’s charges were full value for their win and were in control of the game from start to finish. The winners started the game with five lads of 15 years of age Ronan Ryan in goals and two corner backs Iarla Hughes and Jack Quinn and two forwards Ross Ryan and Cathal Brien.

With Sean McNally and Eamon Ryan dominating midfield and Conor Shiren turning in a man of the match performance Kiltale led at the break 2-4 to 0-4. The winners started brightly with senior hurler Jack Regan putting over two early frees. Kildalkey tied up the match after 15 minutes with points from Conor Kewarney and Mark Healy. Kiltale’s dominance was rewarded with a great goal after a great move finished to the net by 15 year old Ross Ryan and quickly followed by a great point from Michael Burke after a great pass by Rory Hennessy. Before the break Ferghal Mc Cabe released Kevin Ryan with a great pass and he split the defence only to be taken down and Jack Regan hammered the resulting free to the Kildalkey net. Healy Kildalkey in the game with a point as Kiltale went in at the break seven points to the good.

Jack Regan opened the scoring in the second half with a 60metre free and this was quickly followed up by a great point from Conor Shiren after great work by Sean Mc Nally. Kildalkey enjoyed their best period in the game and tagged on a brace of points from Conor Kearney but Kiltale replied with points from Ferghal Mc Cabe and young Ross Ryan to give them a comfortable 2-9 to 0-6 lead after 25 minutes. Kildalkey’s best player Conor Kearney netted a penalty but time ran out for ‘The Village’ and Kiltale eased to victory. Jack Regan pointed a massive long range free to finish out the game.

Iarla Hughes gave an outstanding display at corner back and along with Jack Regan on the full back line and the solid half back line of David Schilders Chris Reilly and Shirren scores were very hard to come by for a gallant Kildalkey team. Forwards Kevin Ryan along with Ferghal Mc Cabe and Rory Hennessy were a constant threat to a very staunch Kildalkey defence. Best for Kildalkey were Adan Shelly in goals, Luke Rickard at full back, team captain David Conneely, Conor Kearney and Mark Healy.

Eamon Ryan played a captains role for his team and he gladly received the Donnelly cup to complete Kiltales fourth minor hurling title since 2005.

Kiltale: Ronan Ryan, Iarla Hughes, Jack Regan (1-6), Jack Quinn, Sean McNally, Chris Reilly, David Schilders, Eamonn Ryan, Fergal McCabe (0-1), Kevin Ryan, Rory Hennessy, Cathal Brien, Ross Ryan (1-0), Michael Burke (0-1), Conor Shiren (0-1). Subs: Sean Ryan and Chris O’Malley

Kildalkey: Adam Shelly, Sean Kirke, Luke Rickard, Tiarnan Bird, Martin O’Leary, David Conneely, Martin Healy, Conor Kearney (1-3), Kevin McKeown, Shane Moore, Mark Healy (0-3), Mark Chesser, John Murray, Ben Rickard, Patrick Potterton.

U15 Leinster League: Kiltale take Division 2 crown

Kiltale’s Ross Ryan

Leinster U-15 Hurling League: Division 2 final
Kiltale 5-11, Maynooth 4-5

Kiltale won Division 2 of the Leinster U15 Hurling league last Friday night in Hawkfield in Newbridge defeating Maynooth in the final.

This competition was played in three different venues Tinyryland in Carlow,Dunganny in Meath and Hawkfield in Kildare on Friday nights.

Kiltale were backboned by five of there minor winning team Iarla Hughes, Ronan and Ross Ryan, Jack Quinn and Cathal Brien.

Kiltale had to fight hard to win this game but with Iarla Hughes and Jack Farrell dominating around midfield and Cathal Brien and Jack Quinn outstanding on the full back line Kiltale were always in control in this game.

Ross Ryan in the full forward line scored an amazing three goals and five points and was a constant threat to the Maynooth defence and his twin brother Ronan was outstanding at centre back.

Sean Duggan scored 1-1 and Kyle Benson scored the fifth goal for Kiltale.

Further points for Kiltale from Iarla Hughes and Brian O ‘Reilly and Cathal Ryan gave Kiltale a cushion going into the final quarter when Maynooth piled on the pressure and Liam Gilsenan in goals brought off some fine saves.

Kiltale had other great performances from Jack Cummins at midfield and Lee Corcoran and Conor Mc Nally up front and Andrew Jackson the team captain showed great leadership at centre forward.

After the game Andrew Jackson accepted the trophy along with Leinster gear bags from Syl Merrins and Lester Ryan of Leinster Council.

Kiltale: Liam Gilsenan, Cathal Brien, Jack Quinn, Brian O’Reilly 0-1, Cathal Ryan 0-1, Ronan Ryan, Conor McNally, Jack Cummins, Iarla Hughes 0-3, Jack Farrell, Andrew Jackson, Lee Corcoran, Sean Duggan 1-1, Ross Ryan 3-5, Kyle Benson 1-0. Subs – Graham Loughran for Duggan (injured).

Camogie: League title for Kiltale

Meath Camogie league, Division 2: Final (replay)
Kiltale 3-6, Navan O’Mahony’s 2-4

Kiltale made no mistake in this replay beating Navan and capturing the Division 2 league title.

Missing five players from the last day, the odds were all against Kiltale but a great start with a goal apiece from Niamh Courtney and Donna McGann made sure Kiltale were well on their way with a 2-4 to 1-1 lead at half time.

The second half proved a tighter affair with Navan hitting 1-1 without reply but Kiltale settled and thanks to some superb defending from Jessica Moriarty , Ciara Donoghue and Shirley Dixon the Navan fight back was quenched.

Another goal from Niamh Courtney ensured Kiltale got the win, which means that Kiltale were unbeaten in both league and championship, a feat completed by no other camogie team in Meath this year. Best for Kiltale were Jessica Moriarty, Niamh Courtney, Cheyanne O’Brien, Jenny Rispin, Taylor Little and Ciara Donoghue.

Christy Mangan presented the shield to Louise Donoghue where he complemented the Kiltale Club on their great year and praised their hard work since being relegated in 2011. In her speech Louise paid tribute to Brian Coughlan for his efforts this year.

Kiltale: Louise Byrne, Ciara Malee, Fiona Madden, Jessica Moriarty, Shirley Dixon, Ciara Donoghue, Taylor Little, Louise Donoghue, Aoife Weston, Sarah Kelly, Cliona O’Sullivan, Donna McGann, Niamh Courtney, Cheyanne O’Brien, Jenny Rispin, Niamh McGroder and Sinead Dixon
